Shanghai Songcheng surprised me—this seven-story entertainment complex is one of Shanghai's hottest new attractions. Locals have been raving about it, especially the nighttime entertainment. My local friend insisted I check it out, and now I see why it's become such a viral hit.
From the outside, Shanghai Songcheng (上海宋城) looks fascinating—each floor has its own theme. I did my homework before arriving and learned that the Cliff Theater on the 7th floor offers the best views, so I headed straight there after entering.
Cliff Theater (悬崖剧场): The view is absolutely stunning. The Huangpu River stretches out below, framed by the iconic skyline of Pudong—proof that Shanghai truly is an international metropolis. But there's more than just scenery. The 7th floor also features outdoor play areas for kids, Fantasy Space, and two unmissable shows: Cliff Concert and Flower Dance.
The elegant Cliff Concert genuinely washed away my travel fatigue—beautiful music in an incredible setting. Then the Flower Dance stole the show entirely. The dancers were mesmerizing, and the audience went wild with applause.
Must-Visit: Street Market in the Sky (天上的街市)
The 6th floor's Street Market in the Sky is a trip—designed with a Western Regions (Xiyu) aesthetic, it's full of quirky souvenirs and unique trinkets. If you spot something you love, grab it—these specialty items won't be easy to find elsewhere.
One show you absolutely can't miss: Crystal Ball. A incredibly skilled performer manipulates a crystal ball with such finesse—it's genuinely cool, and kids absolutely loved it.
Other attractions on this floor include the Tilted Room, Upside-Down House, Invisible House, Storm Eye, and Arabian Nights. Worth exploring if you have time!
Must-See: Earthquake (大地震)
After exploring the upper floors, head to the 1st floor for Earthquake—a powerful live performance based on the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake. It tells heart-wrenching stories from that tragic day, and honestly, it moved me to tears.
The best part: audience members can actually volunteer to participate in the show. You get to feel the courage and bravery of soldiers, firefighters, and medical workers during a disaster. A truly immersive and emotional experience.
Must-Do: Nighttime Outdoor Events
Time flies when you're having fun, and before I knew it, evening had arrived. Two nighttime events are absolute musts: Punk Flash Mob and Color Water Party.
First up: Punk Flash Mob. In a hazy, surreal atmosphere, a group of cool punk-style guys and girls hit the stage, dancing to the DJ's beats. The moment you step in, it's like entering a magical world—all around you are characters straight out of punk rock mythology. Absolutely fascinating.
Then there's the Color Water Party. When the bass drops and heavy metal drums kick in alongside punk girl dancers, we jumped right in. At this moment, anyone holding a water gun looks like the coolest, most awesome person on the planet.
Pro tip: Go all in—follow the beat, aim your water gun at your "enemy," and fully enjoy the water party. This summer doesn't feel hot at all—the water party is an absolute must-experience!
Beyond these, the outdoor area also features Miracle—an incredible magic show where the magician's精湛技巧 leaves audiences in awe. And Hello, Charlie Chaplin takes you back to the era when the comedy legend ruled Hollywood, letting you fully experience Chaplin's timeless charm.
