Duration: 2 days
Travelers: Couple/Friends
Budget: Accommodation and tickets vary; family-friendly destination
Transportation: Self-drive recommended

Day 1: Mulan Grassland Adventure

After missing Inner Mongolia this year, we discovered something incredible right in Wuhan—a stunning grassland perfect for camping and photos. Mulan Grassland (木兰草原) offers that弥补我们遗憾的方式—a taste of Inner Mongolia without the long trip.

We arrived Saturday morning and spent the day camping, having a picnic, and exploring the grassland. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking—we couldn't believe this was in Wuhan!

Accommodation: Mǎjì Shān Resort (马跡山度假山庄)

After the grassland, we checked into Mǎjì Shān Resort, and wow—we were blown away! We initially thought this would be just another countryside guesthouse, but this is a full-blown resort.

The resort covers over 200 mu (about 33 acres) with over 10,000 square meters of building space. It features business rooms, water-view restaurant, large hotel, private dining rooms, banquet halls, and conference rooms—everything you need for a getaway.

The resort is located on the Huo Ta Line in Huangpi District, just 10 minutes from downtown Huangpi. Mulan Grassland is super close—practically next door.

We booked a villa—there are only two on property, each with three floors featuring double rooms and king rooms, all decorated in traditional Chinese style. Each villa has a mahjong room and a massive KTV room with professional singing equipment. It's perfect for families, and we heard many local weddings are held here!

The sunset at Mǎjì Shān is unbelievably beautiful—a tranquility that's hard to put into words. The clear pond reflects the entire hotel, and the arch bridge spans the water. People stroll along, leaning on railings to take in the views.

Reality check: The resort has EVERYTHING—mahjong, BBQ, fishing, fruit picking,KTV, go-karts, sand motorcycles, dinosaur rides, rope bridges, archery, summer water world... The list goes on! Since we visited in late autumn, some summer water activities were closed, but we still enjoyed go-karting, fishing, great food, playing cards, and singing. Perfect for any season!

Foreigner tip: The restaurant serves authentic Huangpi cuisine—don't miss Huangpi Sanxian (黄陂三鲜), dried bean sheets (豆丝), and crispy lotus root rolls (炸藕合). Everything was beautifully plated and absolutely delicious!

Mulan Grassland (木兰草原): The Main Event

Wuhan locals know Mulan Grassland as THE place for weekend camping and photos. It's one of the eight Mulan scenic spots in Huangpi—a must-visit网红景区 (internet-famous spot) with a草原 theme.

Legend: The flat land, lush grass, and beautiful scenery are said to be where Mulan (the legendary female warrior) rode her beloved white horse to practice martial arts at dawn. The area has been connected to Mulan ever since.

Many Wuhan people bring tents and food for weekend camping. The grassland features vast views, crystal-clear lakes, horses galloping at sunset, a quiet Mongolian village, and flying Hada scarves—truly the "Central China Great Grassland"!

Pro hack: Don't miss the tourist train! Riding the pink, blue, and white的小火车 (mini train) around the grassland is a 4.2-kilometer journey taking 45 minutes through Candy Town, Flower Valley, Cloud Town, and Dream Valley. Kids and the young-at-heart absolutely love it—it's like entering a dream fairy tale town!

The highlight: The Gesang flowers (格桑花) in autumn! These low-altitude flowers are incredibly delicate. We couldn't believe we could see this endless sea of Gesang flowers even in fall. The flowers sway in the wind, releasing a subtle fragrance—like a bride ready to be married. Every woman who visits can't help but want to become part of this beauty!
