Whether you're soaking in flower petal pools under the stars, racing down glass water slides, or enjoying a family barbecue in the woods, this place delivers a complete escape from city life without the long drive.

Getting There: Your Journey Begins

The Mid-Autumn and National Day holidays were approaching, and I was searching for the perfect local getaway. With temperatures dropping and the autumn chill setting in after several rains, I knew my family needed something warm and cozy for the 8-day holiday. That's when I discovered the Forest Hot Spring Paradise (世博森林温泉乐园) right here in Kunming.

Forest Hot Spring Paradise Aerial View

Nestled in the northern part of Kunming within the World Expo Garden, this forest hot spring backs right up to Jindian Mountain. It's one of the few true "forest hot springs" you'll find within the city limits.

📍 How to Get There

By Car: Enter through Gate 2 of the World Expo Garden (世博园2号门). Parking is available near the gate. Use navigation to search for "世博园2号门".

By Bus: Multiple routes (47, 182, 71, K18, 235, 69, A1) stop at the World Expo Garden main entrance. From there, walk to the Visitor Center and take the shuttle bus to the hot spring entrance.

The Hot Spring Experience: 41 Pools in a Forest

Upon arrival, I checked in at the front desk, received my locker wristband, and changed into my swimsuit. Walking through the changing rooms and following the signs, I emerged into a magical forest setting where 41 hot spring pools were scattered across 30,000 square meters of wooded landscape.

The pools are divided into three categories, each offering a unique experience:

Four Seasons Wellness Pools (四季养生泡池)

I started with these classic pools, choosing based on my mood. Each pool is nestled among lush greenery that provides excellent privacy and tranquility. As I sank into the warm water, feeling the heat envelop my body, I couldn't help but feel my stress melting away. The combination of warm water and cool autumn air was absolutely divine.

Wellness Pool

Traditional Chinese Medicine Pools (民族中药泡池)

These distinctive pools immediately caught my attention with their unique colors and aromas. Infused with herbs like angelica (当归) and Solomon's seal (黄精), the water has a distinctive hue and fills the air with a pleasant medicinal fragrance. I found these incredibly soothing, especially after the outdoor activities.

Herbal Medicine Pool

Flower Petal Pools (鲜花泡池)

These were undoubtedly the most beautiful and popular pools. Floating flower petals covered the water's surface, creating an almost dreamlike atmosphere. I spent a blissful half-hour here with my eyes closed, completely lost in the moment while the petals drifted around me. It felt like bathing in a floral paradise.

Best Strategy: Try 1-3 pools from each category to experience the variety

Duration: Limit each soak to 15-20 minutes, then take breaks

Evening Magic: Return to the pools after dark when they're lit up - absolutely magical!

Adventure Activities: Thrills in the Forest

After a relaxing 1-2 hour soak, we headed to the outdoor adventure area for some adrenaline-pumping fun. The resort offers seven different activities that cater to various thrill levels:

Adventure Activities

The Glass Water Rafting was absolutely exhilarating! Imagine sitting in a small raft, entering the transparent glass channel suspended in the air, and racing down with water splashing all around you. The combination of speed, water, and height created an unforgettable rush.

Glass Water Rafting

The Rainbow Slide had us screaming with delight from start to finish. There's something incredibly freeing about racing down that colorful slide - the laughter and screams echoing through the forest created an atmosphere of pure joy.

Rainbow Slide

For something truly unique, the zip line/wire walking experience let me fulfill my martial arts fantasy of "lightness skill" (轻功). Suspended high above the ground, I soared over the resort like a bird, getting a bird's-eye view of the entire complex. It was both terrifying and magical.

Indoor Relaxation: Second Floor Amenities

After all that outdoor excitement, we headed to the second-floor rest area to unwind. This spacious zone offers multiple entertainment options:

This is where the real relaxation began. After soaking and adventuring, my muscles were perfectly warmed up and ready for treatment. The foot massage and traditional Chinese massage services here are excellent - the therapists really know how to work out tension. There's also sand therapy available, which I found surprisingly effective for deep relaxation.

Culinary Discoveries: Dining Options

All that soaking and playing worked up quite an appetite! The resort offers several dining options, but the buffet and barbecue stand out.

The Buffet Experience

The main buffet restaurant offers over 70 different dishes - so many choices that I actually suffered from decision paralysis! The spread includes staples, fruits, desserts, meat dishes, vegetables, cold dishes, and hot dishes. The dining environment is spacious, clean, warm, and comfortable.

There's something primal and satisfying about grilling over hot coals. The sizzle of chicken wings, beef, vegetables, and pork chops created an irresistible aroma that had our mouths watering. Any thoughts of diet or calorie counting went right out the window!

Evening Magic: Nighttime Hot Springs

Fully fed and content, we returned to the hot spring pools as night fell. This was the highlight of the entire day.

The temperature had dropped significantly, and the cool night air created perfect conditions for hot spring bathing. As the resort lights came on, the pools transformed into a magical wonderland. Steam rose from the water, creating an ethereal atmosphere, while the pools glowed with soft lighting.

Nighttime Hot Spring

Soaking in the warm water while surrounded by forest and stars, feeling the contrast between the cool air and hot water - it was pure bliss. The evening crowd was smaller and more peaceful, creating an almost meditative atmosphere.

Room Interior

I strongly recommend the Hillside Villas (半山别墅) if your budget allows. These "forest villas" offer the ultimate experience - each villa comes with its own private hot spring pool and barbecue area. The privacy and tranquility are unmatched, with no strangers to disturb your peace.

Hillside Villa

Villa Exterior

Staying in a villa means you can enjoy all the resort amenities without compromise. The serene environment and cozy rooms made our night truly memorable. Lying in the private hot spring, gazing up at the stars, feeling completely removed from the city bustle - it was the perfect end to a perfect day.

End of Journey: Departure

If you're not staying overnight, simply reverse your arrival steps - change back into your clothes in the locker room, return your wristband at the front desk, settle any additional charges, and head out the same way you came in.

Resort Grounds

As I left, I felt completely refreshed and rejuvenated. This wasn't just a hot spring visit - it was a complete wellness experience combining nature, relaxation, adventure, and family bonding.
