Why We Chose This Retreat
Life is a journey of self-discovery. The busy urban rhythm sometimes makes us restless—that's when we need to find a quiet corner, far from the noise of the world, touch nature, listen to our inner voice, and let life return to its most comfortable state. Returning to simplicity isn't just a lifestyle choice; it's the highest realm of personal cultivation.
After too long in the concrete jungle of the city, I longed for a life with sea breezes, flowers, and the fragrance of earth. I wanted to run free in the mountains without a care in the world. The Kangaroo Hotel (袋鼠酒店) at Laoshan in Qingdao fulfilled my beautiful fantasy—living in a peaceful space for a few days, like a hermit in paradise.
This is a house with soul and warmth. Three buildings with green walls burst with vitality. From afar, they hide in the half-mountain tea plantations of Qingdao (青岛) Fisherman's Village, surrounded by mountains and sea, away from the bustling city—shining like green gemstones scattered between mountains and ocean, truly isolated from the world.
The Accommodation Experience
This high-end resort has only ten guest rooms, but what they lack in quantity they make up for in quality. Each room comes with its own reception area, a Western restaurant, and an outdoor viewing platform. Every room has a different style with excellent views, and the butler service makes you feel like royalty.
No wonder it's so popular despite the premium prices—guests need to book well in advance. It's become a local hotspot.
We tried both the Luxury Room A and Luxury Room B, each with its unique charm. Comfortable, warm, relaxing, and bright—every second here made us truly appreciate the beauty of nature and worry-free living.
The room design is incredibly thoughtful, with all facilities provided—you really only need to bring a few personal items for your vacation. The bathroom features Hansgrohe (汉斯格雅) fixtures, the comfortable goose-down bedding is cloud-like, and the toiletries are from the Italian brand Acca Kappa. The Bluetooth speaker has amazing sound quality, so you can enjoy five-star service every moment.
Simple decorative pieces and a window-side hanging chair make you forget the city's noise the moment you close your eyes. You just want to immerse yourself in this charming atmosphere. The welcome gift includes a handwritten card and local Laoshan beverages and fruits.
Morning Rituals
Waking up naturally, I headed to the Western restaurant for a delicious, exquisite breakfast facing the sea. This started the day full of energy and made my mood particularly wonderful.
After breakfast, we returned to the room for some comfortable reading and rest. The fabric sofa is large and soft, and the elegant environment helps everyone relax. Occasionally watching the clouds gather outside the window feels like a dynamic landscape painting that's absolutely mesmerizing.
The outdoor balcony is also wonderfully designed with very open views. We spent a lazy afternoon in a rattan hammock, kissed by sunshine.
Afternoon Adventures
In the late afternoon when the weather was cooler, we walked about five minutes to an ancient tree nearby. We swung on a romantic swing, looking at the endless green, and let our body and mind completely merge with the mountains—a truly great enjoyment.
Of course, we also visited the hotel's Western restaurant for a beautiful afternoon tea while overlooking the hundred-acre tea plantations and sea views.
Evening Romance
In the evening, we enjoyed a luxurious Western candlelight dinner under twinkling lights.
Every dish is beautifully presented, and the taste is完全不输那些品牌餐厅 (completely rivals branded restaurants)—perfect for a romantic date with your partner or闺蜜 (bestie).
Before it got completely dark, we also took a walk on the nearby beach to walk off dinner. Fishing boats in the distance were slowly returning—a beautiful scroll of fishing village life.
Sailing Adventure
At noon the next day, our room booking included a German Hans (汉斯) luxury yacht double package worth over 2,000 RMB. We enjoyed an hour of sailing at Qingdao (青岛) Olympic Sailing Center, and during the trip, we could take in all the scenic views of this coastal city.
Every casual photo looks like a magazine cover. The sea breeze feels incredibly refreshing. On the boat, we swayed together, shared interesting stories along the way, laughter drifting with the waves into the distance, leaving beautiful silhouettes.
